NATIONAL COMING OUT DAY!
Today is National Coming Out Day
Choosing when, why and who we come out to is a deeply personal choice.
For some it was just a fluid, organic, natural progression in their
lives that never truly needed to be declared. At some point in their
lives, they felt a personal need for it to be stated and confirmed.
For others it may have been a conflicting struggle of hiding what nature
intended them to be. Lost in uncertainty or denial due to fear of what
family, friends or society might chose to condemn them for. Burdened
with shame or guilt, they may have found themselves wrapped in a game
of lying not only to others but to themselves. They waited until the
day (if any) they might learn acceptance and to be comfortable with
who they are.
Some are bullied into staying in the closet, while others are cruelly outed.
My hope is that someday we won’t need a Coming Out Day to make our
presence known. I hope we come to a point where homosexuality is just
another part of life rather than a point of hatred and condemnation. And
although I do feel that we are heading in that direction, I know that
there are scores of those who are always going to be uncomfortable
towards anyone who is different than themselves, be it due to race,
religion, or sexuality. But HOPEFULLY, those numbers will decrease.
‘We are the sum of our choices.
We cannot chose who we love
But we can chose how we love’
Love one-another.

Why do you show a man wrapped in barbed wire to celebrate National Coming Out Day. Seems to me he should be waving a Gay Flag, or something similarly celebratory. Being tied up in barbed wire hardly suggests a better life lies ahead when you come out.
